What to wear and bring on your night kayak tour

Dress for comfort and for getting a little wet. Here is the simple packing list for a night paddle from the Nokomis Boat Ramp.

What to wear

  • Swimwear or quick-dry clothing: shorts and shirts, or a rash guard (nylon, polyester or sport blends). Jeans are not ideal.
  • Cooler nights: a windbreaker or hoodie works well.
  • Footwear: many guests paddle barefoot and leave shoes at the launch. Water shoes, flip flops or sandals are also great.
  • How wet will I get? It depends on your paddling and net use, so expect a few splashes.

What to bring

  • A towel and, if you like, dry clothes for after the tour.
  • Water, so you stay hydrated.

Leave in the car

Phones, wallets, keys, jewelry and non-waterproof cameras can get wet or sink, so please leave them behind.

Weight limits

Tandem kayaks hold up to 425 lbs and solo kayaks up to 350 lbs. Larger weight limit kayaks are available. If you need a solo kayak because of weight, tell us at least 24 hours ahead.

Every kayak comes with life jackets, lights, whistles and nets, and your guides stay close the whole time.
